{"id":1851,"date":"2010-03-22T18:53:36","date_gmt":"2010-03-22T18:53:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/?p=1851"},"modified":"2010-03-22T18:53:36","modified_gmt":"2010-03-22T18:53:36","slug":"rainy-days-and-mondays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/2010\/03\/22\/rainy-days-and-mondays\/","title":{"rendered":"Rainy Days and Mondays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend was disappointing in the fact that it was BEAUTIFUL all week, got cold and rainy Saturday, got cold and supahwindy Sunday, and is now back to gorgeous again.\u00a0 Just in time for overtime again!\u00a0 Wheeee!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/ihasahotdog.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/03\/funny-dog-pictures-security-camera.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Workouts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Workouts went as planned last week, minus skipping the 5k Saturday morning.\u00a0 It was rainy (like heavy pouring rain) and thunderstormy.\u00a0 The race people said they were still holding it, but we decided that we didn&#8217;t want to get sick\/injured and figured &#8211; next month.<\/p>\n<p>At first I was holding out, trying not to be a wuss and so was Zliten, but when I realized there is no way I&#8217;m getting a PR on a mud run, and he thought about adding a twisted ankle to his huge arm bruise (which I didn&#8217;t cause, thxuverymuch) and his rib being out of place &#8211; we decided against it.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m taking it easy on running right now.\u00a0 My body has spoken and is now shouting very loudly.\u00a0 My appetite has NOT gone down at all (please see food stuff below).\u00a0 My heels are hurty.\u00a0 I just feel tired.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve just gotta accept that right now, 3-4 months is about the limit for me and I need to rotate to easier workouts for a while to stay healthy.\u00a0 I&#8217;m going to lower the requirement down to 2 runs a week, and no less than a 5k &#8211; so at minimum 6 miles a week.\u00a0 I hope to get out and do more.\u00a0 But honestly?\u00a0 I need a rest.\u00a0 Long epic walks.\u00a0 DDR.\u00a0 Bike rides.\u00a0 Gym cross training.\u00a0 Lotsa weights\/resistance band\/strength stuff.<\/p>\n<p>As much as I wanted to try and keep a base, I definitely proved I can ramp up quickly without too much discomfort.\u00a0 Maybe in a few weeks I&#8217;ll revisit the idea of going longer than a 10k, or if the right opportunity provides itself and I feel rested\/ready &#8211; but for now&#8230; short and fast.\u00a0 What?\u00a0 I can&#8217;t do short and slow&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/ihasahotdog.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/03\/funny-dog-pictures-im-right.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Food Stuffs:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I started tracking last week and was doing good.\u00a0 Minus the daily piece of cake (?), I sailed through most weekdays without an issue calorie-wise, coming in at about 1400 per day.\u00a0 The problem?\u00a0 The weekend.\u00a0 Friday, I ate dinner at 6pm, then went out and drank.\u00a0 Pretty much like a little fishie. I woke up STARVING.<\/p>\n<p>Then, I was just HUNGRY all weekend.\u00a0 I tried to make decent choices but it was about 50%.\u00a0 Saturday, I got no mayo on my sammich, and threw away some of the bread, and didn&#8217;t eat ALL of the fries, but as you can see, it wasn&#8217;t super healthy.\u00a0 Then I snacked all day (on cuties and sesame chips and cheese) at my parents&#8217; house.\u00a0 Then birthday dinner #29456 was filet and grilled shrimp and veggies and salad with lowfat ranch.\u00a0 But there was also bread.\u00a0 And onion straws.\u00a0 And key lime pie.\u00a0 And then LATER there was even more snacking.\u00a0 Same type of thing Sunday.\u00a0 My appetite is just NOT NORMAL right now.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not necessarily uber craving the bad stuff, and the &#8220;cake everyday&#8221; thing should subside now that birthday celebrations are officially over, but just the sheer quantity is disturbing.<\/p>\n<p>And I have no excuse!\u00a0 I burned like 2500 calories last week, max.\u00a0 I ran 6 miles.\u00a0 The only thing I can think is that I&#8217;ve added a few miles a week walking around the office.\u00a0 Literally.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not kidding.\u00a0 Herding cats is walky work.\u00a0 However, I sure don&#8217;t think I&#8217;m doing ANYTHING compared to the 30+ mile weeks and my trap just wants more shoved down it.\u00a0 Carrots or carrot cake, sprouted grain bread or jelly donuts &#8211; it&#8217;s all the same.\u00a0 All that matters is the ease of ability to shove.\u00a0 So the good news is I&#8217;ve been eating a lot of healthy food.\u00a0 The bad news &#8211; I&#8217;ve been eating A LOT.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/ihasahotdog.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/03\/funny-dog-pictures-butt-head.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"298\" height=\"420\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mental State\/General Life:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s definitely interesting, this life.\u00a0 Just a little over a month ago I was putting all my training to the test slogging through a sick 13.1 miles.\u00a0 I had no idea what was in store for me in the next month.\u00a0 Things I have learned and experienced since then:<\/p>\n<p>-I only have a finite amount of &#8220;give-a-shit&#8221;.\u00a0 I can cultivate more with work, and I can slack and have less, but there is a tangible amount of effort I can put into things, be it physical, mental, emotional, and willpower-y.\u00a0 Right now, work has definitely borrowed from other aspects of my life.\u00a0 As frustrating as it was to shift FROM that 3 years ago, I got used to it, and now it&#8217;s just as weird and awkward to shift that direction again.\u00a0 This could (and probably will) be a whole other post.<\/p>\n<p>-I was freaked out about being able to ever run a half marathon again &#8211; because when I took the break it felt so unnatural to run more than a 10k.\u00a0 What if I just can&#8217;t do it anymore?\u00a0 What if that was a fluke?\u00a0 What if I&#8217;m not meant to run long distances even though it was was rewarding?\u00a0 I had\/am having the same moments with work.\u00a0 I&#8217;m doing what I had done before at my previous job (except on a much higher profile\/larger scale).\u00a0 The funny thing about both &#8211; if you did something well once, chances are you&#8217;ll be able to do it again as long as you train properly and give yourself the necessary time to adjust.<\/p>\n<p>-I can get all upset at myself for not making much progress on <a href=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/?m=200912\" target=\"_blank\">my resolutions<\/a> yet this year.\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t seen under 155.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t hit my half marathon goal pace and I&#8217;m curtailing my running for a bit.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not reading, I&#8217;m not writing.\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t done any of the one liners except whittling down my smoking (once a week, always with alcohol, thxuverymuch).\u00a0 However, that nebulous &#8220;figure out WTF to do with my job&#8221; resolution?\u00a0 On like donkey kong.\u00a0 So 1 out of 5 aint bad I guess.<\/p>\n<p>-I&#8217;m feeling that ennui about the whole MUST!LOSE!WEIGHT!
