{"id":6674,"date":"2017-02-08T18:00:13","date_gmt":"2017-02-09T00:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/?p=6674"},"modified":"2017-02-08T18:01:11","modified_gmt":"2017-02-09T00:01:11","slug":"6674","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/2017\/02\/08\/6674\/","title":{"rendered":"The Middle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is the middle.\u00a0 The newness of &#8220;wheee, I&#8217;m actually training for this Ironman race&#8221; has worn off, and I still have 10 and a half weeks until the race (thankfully), so the light at the end of the tunnel isn&#8217;t quite there.\u00a0 Zliten and I are a little snippy at each other.\u00a0 I have given my scale a STERN talking to on several occasions like it was a real person.\u00a0 The training sessions JUST DON&#8217;T STOP COMING because dang, it&#8217;s hard to fit in another part time job when you already have a full time one, and want to do fun things every once in a while, and also have family and friends that actually want to be in your life and stuff.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6685\" src=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Feb8-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"401\" height=\"398\" srcset=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Feb8-1.jpg 600w, http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Feb8-1-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Feb8-1-300x298.jpg 300w, http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Feb8-1-88x88.jpg 88w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 401px) 100vw, 401px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Sometimes looking at the light is dangerous.\u00a0 Just ask my iguana.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve figured out a few things:<\/p>\n<p>a) this is NOT the time to be cooking anything fancy.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t have the oomph right now to spend half of Sunday in the kitchen.\u00a0 Easy meals that multiply out well, crock pot food, this is what needs to be happening.\u00a0 I DEFINITELY, even if I convince myself otherwise because food is better fresh, don&#8217;t have the oomph to cook food at night when I get home.\u00a0 We tried that last night and there was yelling and rude words and one of us just had to leave the kitchen because dinner took 20-30 minute to cook after we got home at 8:15pm.\u00a0 &#8220;I&#8217;m sorry for the things I said when I was hungry&#8221; is a phrase that is on repeat around here lately.<\/p>\n<p>b) this is also not the time for a shit ton of commitments.\u00a0 I have to use the word NO liberally.\u00a0 In May, I get to use the word YES more often.\u00a0 In February, I have very few slots on my dance card.\u00a0 If we hang out between now and April 22nd, you probably either a) also swim\/bike\/run or b) you are very special to me.<\/p>\n<p>c) midnight is absolute bedtime on weekdays and 2am is pushing it on Saturdays.\u00a0 Once I pass that 10 hours\/week training mark, I either sleep or my body just shuts the hell down.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6687\" src=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Feb8-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Feb8-3.jpg 598w, http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Feb8-3-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Feb8-3-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Feb8-3-88x88.jpg 88w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Want to make your Monday awesome? Bike to work, eat amazing food, run home, and then eat more amazing food!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not all bad though, in fact, mostly great.\u00a0 Last week was pretty stellar.\u00a0 I hit every workout I planned (besides the wishy-washy &#8220;maybe a recovery ride or run if I feel like it&#8221; plan Sunday when I haven&#8217;t had a full day off in 36 days&#8230; I mean DUH, I&#8217;M NOT GOING TO FEEL LIKE IT).\u00a0 I only shortened one bike.\u00a0\u00a0 Almost 13 hours of quality training in the bank.\u00a0 Rock on.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 swims &#8211; 3150m in 59 min and 1350m in 25 min<\/li>\n<li>2 hours easy riding and a 6 hour long hard ride (87 miles\/5k climbing)<\/li>\n<li>15 miles running &#8211; 10 mile long run in 2:03 on super tired legs, 5 mile in 57 mins on fresher ones.<\/li>\n<li>2 weights &#8211; one dozen set, one bodyweights\/bands session<\/li>\n<li>Stretching\/rolling every day<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Nothing particularly fast or impressive here, just a bunch of solid work at a steady pace.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not sexy at all.\u00a0 And that&#8217;s exactly where I need to be at this point.<\/p>\n<p>This week, I&#8217;m ditching the long ride in favor of a long run.\u00a0 Now, my longest run so far is 13 miles (14 if you count as far back as October) so going straight to aiming for up to 20 may be crazy, but the cool thing about endurance is it DOES indeed transfer between sports, so we&#8217;ll see how it goes.\u00a0 I have one more crack at the 20 later in the month so this first one is just to see where my comfort zone ends on legs that aren&#8217;t *completely* wasted.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>25-30 miles of running with 15-20 long run.<\/li>\n<li>5-6 hours of cycling broken up into 3 rides &#8211; one hard ride, one interval ride on the TT, and one recovery ride (plus maybe some errand\/commute riding)<\/li>\n<li>2 swims &#8211; one shorter 1200-1500 and one longer 3k-4k.\u00a0 Hoping for at least race distance, but we&#8217;ll hit that next week if I don&#8217;t.<\/li>\n<li>2 weights workouts.\u00a0 Gym once, either dozen or something else once.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6686\" src=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Feb8-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"401\" srcset=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Feb8-2.jpg 598w, http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Feb8-2-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Feb8-2-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Feb8-2-88x88.jpg 88w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>The balance hangs somewhere between the swim and the salad and the burger and fries.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Life stuff:<\/p>\n<p>I did Chapter 14.\u00a0 This week, it&#8217;s Chapter 15 (and actually already done).\u00a0 Next week is my last week of class, and then it&#8217;s time to study&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t social media much.\u00a0 I&#8217;m kind of stuck and bored with it TBH.\u00a0 I think this might need to take a back seat until I can really attack it.<\/p>\n<p>I tracked my calories for 2367 average each day with -673 deficit.\u00a0 I&#8217;m actually surprised this was as good as it was, considering I overate even my total burned calories on Sunday.\u00a0 My ratios were 89g protein, 76g fat, 29g fiber, and 276g carbs per day.\u00a0 Wrong way again on fat, I upped my fiber and carbs (yay), but my protein wayyyy down.\u00a0 Honestly, I just ate like shit all weekend and that threw my ratios off.\u00a0 Same deal as every week it seems.\u00a0 More carbs, less fat, and now keep my protein on track (which has been MORE than fine since Monday *shrug*).<\/p>\n<p>My average weight was 189.1, which stayed the same from last week. Still 9lbs to go back to 70.3 race weight.\u00a0 Inflammation from these long weekend sessions (and then the calories I&#8217;m eating back) is real, yo.\u00a0 I swung from 192.8 on Monday to 186.7 this morning.\u00a0 My body fat reading is up too.\u00a0 It\u2019s going to be a hard fight while training, but I\u2019ll keep chipping away at it, because that&#8217;s the only alternative.<\/p>\n<p>I drank quite a few drinks last week &#8211; 8 over 2 days during the week, a bunch after the race and I didn&#8217;t keep count, honestly.\u00a0 Whiskey on the rocks was divine but a few of them and I was tipsy and also falling alseep.\u00a0 I figured I would have a little bit of a crazy week with the beer only embargo finally lifted and some social events, but I don&#8217;t want this to become the norm.\u00a0 This week, I&#8217;ll aim to go back to where I was in January.<\/p>\n<p>Rest and recovery and sleep are going well.\u00a0 I&#8217;m averaging over 3.5 hours of deep sleep per night, with almost 9 hours average total.\u00a0 Even with the extra drinkies, I ended up with lots of sleep.\u00a0 This is a good compromise.<\/p>\n<p>This week, I have some errands to run so I&#8217;m not going to set a bunch of other goals:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Pick up new glasses (DONE!)<\/li>\n<li>Exchange Christmas present shirt (all the way across town and only available select days from noon to 5. :P)<\/li>\n<li>Pick up Valentine&#8217;s Day dinner food and have a super awesome grilled steak and lobster love fest.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>And, that will wrap it up.\u00a0 One foot in front of each other.\u00a0 One workout, one mile at a time.\u00a0 Keepin&#8217;
