{"id":4820,"date":"2015-01-30T20:21:29","date_gmt":"2015-01-31T02:21:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/?p=4820"},"modified":"2016-04-12T18:56:22","modified_gmt":"2016-04-13T00:56:22","slug":"january-wrap-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/2015\/01\/30\/january-wrap-up\/","title":{"rendered":"January Wrap Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Quick recap of January even though we have 1.5 more days&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/sunset.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4823\" alt=\"sunset\" src=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/sunset.jpg\" width=\"365\" height=\"362\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/sunset.jpg 609w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/sunset-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/sunset-300x297.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 365px) 100vw, 365px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Overall, January was a challenging month from many angles.\u00a0 Allergies hit me hard.\u00a0 We had weeks at a time where it was grey and drizzly (great for running, but bad for anything else).\u00a0 Work had a few twists and turns (understatement), and I fought some fear at the unknown.<\/p>\n<p>However, it was a really great month in terms of training.\u00a0 I cooked some great new recipes.\u00a0 I got on board with some new habits.\u00a0 It was a bit of a shaky start, but I think 2015 has some real promise, using January as it&#8217;s foundation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Racing:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Did not jump into either race I was considering (Rogue 30k or 3M half).\u00a0 Trying to save money.\u00a0 If I do the same cycle next year, I will probably aim to do the Rogue 30k as a supported, faster, long run.\u00a0 I really want to do 3M but we&#8217;ll see where my priorities lie with racing next year.\u00a0 Either way, didn&#8217;t race, and I&#8217;m happy with that.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/21.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4817\" alt=\"21\" src=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/21.jpg\" width=\"361\" height=\"358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/21.jpg 602w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/21-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/21-300x297.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 361px) 100vw, 361px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Training:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Long runs: got a 15 miler on the treadmill, failed a long run the week after (3.5, 2.5 on two tries that weekend, was just exhausted mentally and physically), 21+ miler the next weekend after some rest, and hoping for another long run this weekend (pegging 17-20 depending on weather, how I feel, etc).<\/p>\n<p>Run streak: check.\u00a0 5 weeks straight.\u00a0 I learned a lot of things from doing this, but I&#8217;ll save that for another post.<\/p>\n<p>Volume: Looking at 40, 33, 39, and low to mid 40s this week depending on long run.\u00a0 This was one long run missed, and a rest week kind of squished between two weeks (Saturday &#8211; Friday instead of Monday &#8211; Sunday simply due to listening to my body&#8217;s exhaustion).\u00a0 Overall, I&#8217;m already at a huge monthly mileage PR for January even before this weekend&#8217;s long run, so I&#8217;m stoked.<\/p>\n<p>Swim: Twice per week.\u00a0 Much better than the once per week goal.\u00a0 Zliten doing a swim streak helped.\u00a0 Getting in the water weekly even for just a short swim does great things both for my run recovery and my swim paces, and I&#8217;d like to keep this up.<\/p>\n<p>Stretching\/Strength\/Recovery: Stretching and recovery, I&#8217;ve done well.\u00a0 Strength&#8230;eh&#8230; I started well but have slacked off.\u00a0 Baby steps.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll keep this one on the docket for next month.<\/p>\n<p>Cycling: not even 100 miles this month, and all of those were easy trainer miles.\u00a0 But that&#8217;s ok.\u00a0 I ran over 1.5 times more miles this month than I biked.\u00a0 That never happens.\u00a0 Fun!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Food\/Eating\/Scale:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tracking: I did well at the beginning of the month but fell off.\u00a0 I think I need to take a different approach in February.<\/p>\n<p>No booze January: this was a major fail.\u00a0 With the shit that went on this month, this was the equivalent of trying to cut out sugar completely over the holidays or trying to quit smoking during finals week.\u00a0 We made it 11 days, which actually helped accomplish one of the primary objectives of lowering our tolerance, but we had drinks 4 times this month.\u00a0 We also found that the days we drank before we called it off completely &#8211; we REALLY DRANK.\u00a0 So my friends, I&#8217;ll continue to do moderation here.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t see any positives here for all the negatives.\u00a0 That&#8217;s why we try new things and we don&#8217;t always keep with them.<\/p>\n<p>Food quality: better than December, certainly, but still working my way back to squeaky clean.<\/p>\n<p>I ended up doing a lot of fluctuating this month and not weighing regularly.\u00a0 Lowest was 175.2 and highest was 183.2.\u00a0 Yeah.\u00a0 I&#8217;m hoping to stabilize more next month.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/jan23-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4811\" alt=\"jan23-2\" src=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/jan23-2.jpg\" width=\"363\" height=\"357\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/jan23-2.jpg 605w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/jan23-2-300x295.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 363px) 100vw, 363px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Work Stuff:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I got my promotion, and I know what my 2015 looks like, so now the waiting game is over and it&#8217;s time for action.\u00a0 And so I shall act.<\/p>\n<p>I went through two phases this month.\u00a0 Early on, I was in a pit of worry\/depression\/indifference, which if I was a perfect person, I would have still made forward progress, but I didn&#8217;t.\u00a0 Can&#8217;t dwell.\u00a0 Then, once the smoke cleared, I had days, like today, where I have wall to wall meetings.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s all excuses though.\u00a0 I need to continue to push on myself to play when I have downtime.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Life Stuff:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My car is now clean.\u00a0 Hurrah!<\/p>\n<p>I haven&#8217;t made progress on my closet, but I think the problem is that since I&#8217;m not at my normal weight, it&#8217;s hard to make judgements on what to get rid of since not as much looks good right now.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve done a *little* in the kitchen, but not enough.
