{"id":5210,"date":"2015-08-24T17:05:34","date_gmt":"2015-08-24T17:05:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/?p=5210"},"modified":"2015-08-24T17:05:54","modified_gmt":"2015-08-24T17:05:54","slug":"5210","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/2015\/08\/24\/5210\/","title":{"rendered":"Week 3: Stress is Stress is Stress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>9 work days until my 4.5 day weekend for Labor Day.\u00a0 11 days total.\u00a0 267 hours, to be exact.<\/p>\n<p>August has not been a kind month on the stress front.\u00a0 Work has been crazy.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t remember it being so crazy last year this time, but then again, I&#8217;m dealing with more projects and less people.\u00a0 Isn&#8217;t that always the funnest?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Aug24-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-5214\" src=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Aug24-2.jpg\" alt=\"Aug24-2\" width=\"392\" height=\"385\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Aug24-2.jpg 592w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Aug24-2-300x294.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 392px) 100vw, 392px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Gratuitous waffle picture because&#8230; waffle.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve had family in town all month, which, while has been nice, has made it hard to find a rhythm.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not much of a talker when I get off work.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been talking all day and deciding and interacting and it&#8217;s the last thing I want to do most days.\u00a0 I&#8217;m a &#8220;recline on the couch and zone out&#8221; or in the summer &#8220;zone out somewhere in the water&#8221; relaxer.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve gotten a whole lot less of that in August than normal and it&#8217;s starting to fray my nerves.<\/p>\n<p>I also haven&#8217;t been able to really hit my stride with this new eating plan thing.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve had a lot less time to plan, we end up shopping on Sundays instead of Friday after work which means the grocery store is uber busy and I have to get in and get out instead of wander and read labels and consider my options.<\/p>\n<p>And then, there&#8217;s that whole ramping up the build thing I&#8217;ve been doing with the half ironman training.\u00a0 I think in a bubble, I&#8217;ve been handling that actually pretty well, but stress is stress is stress.\u00a0 Which means, hey, if I could have eliminated some of the other stress, I might have been able to load up, like 15 hours instead of 10-11.\u00a0 Oh well.\u00a0 I feel like I&#8217;ve at least hit the minimum training I need to be successful at the race and maybe that&#8217;s all I need.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Week 3 Training:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This week was my highest volume week yet.\u00a0 The highest this year&#8230; the last week that was close was the first week in January!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Aug24-5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-5212\" src=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Aug24-5.jpg\" alt=\"Aug24-5\" width=\"396\" height=\"393\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Aug24-5.jpg 592w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Aug24-5-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Aug24-5-300x298.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 396px) 100vw, 396px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Swimming: 3100m (1 hour)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I did two swims: one slow and steady 1500 (longer sets), one faster 1600 (mix short\/long sets).<\/p>\n<p>My swimming is kind of where it is right now.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t have time to dedicate to it right now, heck, I haven&#8217;t been able to get an OWS in since the race three weeks ago.\u00a0 I&#8217;m only a little worried about it.\u00a0 My focus will go back there in September, once the schedule is a little more flexible.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Biking: ~100 miles (4.75 hours)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I was all excited about not spending any time on the trainer the last two weeks and I did THREE trainer rides this week.\u00a0 Tuesday, we missed the window for class, so we did a RIDES video which was actually just about as intense, so that worked out.\u00a0 Saturday, Zliten played the NEED SLEEP card when the alarm went off at 5:30am (I think he was a little under the weather and sleeping something off) so instead we did a weird brick thing which involved one hour hard with a run after, then one hour light with a run after.\u00a0 Sunday, we spun easy as planned.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t my finest cycling week ever, but even if I didn&#8217;t get outside, it&#8217;s more butt in saddle time than I&#8217;ve gotten lately so, I don&#8217;t feel too bad about it.\u00a0 I&#8217;m guessing at outdoor intensity\/paces, it would probably be more like 80 miles but whatevs.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Running: 25.5 miles (4.5 hours)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This week was a pretty darn decent one for running.\u00a0 I got in a 3.2 and 5 easy Monday and Wednesday morning, ran an easy half marathon Thursday before work (and actually felt pretty awesome that day after), and then capped it off with 4.25 fast miles off the bike at a 9:30 pace in the heat on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>I hit my planned numbers and workouts here, plus was able to crank out some pretty fast miles when I asked my body to do it.\u00a0 Running is my priority right now, and you can definitely tell.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Other Stuff<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dozen x2.\u00a0 Done and done.<\/li>\n<li>Did not stretch enough.\u00a0 This is a project for this week.<\/li>\n<li>No paddle boarding, kayaking, waterparking, or anything.\u00a0 That&#8217;s probably why I feel a little stressed today!\u00a0 However, I did thrift shop for about 4 hours on Saturday.\u00a0 That should count for something&#8230; standing is my kryptonite.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">What&#8217;s Next<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This week, week 4, is a stepback week.\u00a0 Most of my body feels great.\u00a0 My knees have been trading off being cranky (seriously, one day, it&#8217;s the left one, the next, it&#8217;s the right&#8230;) so I&#8217;m hoping a little less training and a little more stretching will help them both shut up.\u00a0 Mostly, I need the schedule stress pressure release valve more than anything.\u00a0 No 5am alarms this week (until Saturday).\u00a0 That is important.<\/p>\n<p>Priorities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stretching and rolling at least 5 mins every day.\u00a0 Nothing is wrong with my knees, really, my legs are just tight and that&#8217;s how it&#8217;s manifesting this cycle.\u00a0 Hoping to fix that.<\/li>\n<li>Sleep.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t want to take advantage of the later AM alarms by staying up later.\u00a0 I want to get some sleep in the bank.<\/li>\n<li>50 mile outdoor bike ride.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sad I wasn&#8217;t able to do this one this weekend, so I&#8217;m devoting just a little under half my planned hours this week to this one ride and I&#8217;m ok with that.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Week 3 Food:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Honestly, this was an epic fail for many reasons.\u00a0 This pizza was actually a pretty bright spot in my intake.\u00a0 Homemade, with spinach and garlic and turkey pepperoni and feta and a shit ton of veggies = yay.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Aug24-3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-5215\" src=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Aug24-3.jpg\" alt=\"Aug24-3\" width=\"406\" height=\"403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Aug24-3.jpg 591w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Aug24-3-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Aug24-3-300x297.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 406px) 100vw, 406px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>1. I didn&#8217;t track after Thursday afternoon.\u00a0 Sometimes life just gets in the way and it really, really did last week.\u00a0 I&#8217;m pretty sure I ate: not enough calories, too much fat, not enough carbs.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s just call it what it is and move on.<\/p>\n<p>2. I just have had no time to plan.\u00a0 Even the little bit of planning gets tossed to the wayside with my unpredictable weeks, and I can&#8217;t really get the hang of this.\u00a0 I really feel like if I could get some time to sit down and do some research on better ways to get the carb fuel in I need without feeling like I&#8217;m eating so much junk food (and then be able to actually stick to a plan).<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 Fiber bombs.\u00a0 On Tuesday, I ate 46 grams of fiber unintentionally!!!\u00a0 It made Wednesday (and the run that morning) a little uncomfortable.\u00a0 That&#8217;s almost double the recommended daily.\u00a0 It is just SO hard to do this plan without completely overdoing either the fat or fiber.<\/p>\n<p>4.
