{"id":6113,"date":"2016-08-15T11:58:06","date_gmt":"2016-08-15T17:58:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/?p=6113"},"modified":"2016-08-15T11:58:06","modified_gmt":"2016-08-15T17:58:06","slug":"rolling-heads-and-the-finite","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/2016\/08\/15\/rolling-heads-and-the-finite\/","title":{"rendered":"Rolling heads and the finite amount of give-a-shit."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week was one where all the wheels kind of fell off.\u00a0 And you know what?\u00a0 It&#8217;s ok.\u00a0 It&#8217;s easy to start freaking out when your routine gets ripped to shreds and your brain feels like jello, but sometimes you just have to roll with the tide until it&#8217;s calmer.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-6115\" src=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Aug15-1.jpg\" alt=\"Aug15-1\" width=\"402\" height=\"401\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Aug15-1.jpg 593w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Aug15-1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Aug15-1-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Aug15-1-88x88.jpg 88w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 402px) 100vw, 402px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Or roll like heads?\u00a0 As seen in the parking garage where I work. #domainthings<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Thing #1 that broke routine: The Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>My DVR is worthless and rarely can pick up more than a day of Olympic coverage, and randomly decides to not record segments.\u00a0 So, that means to stay on top of it, I&#8217;ve been staying up wayyyyy too late a lot of nights binge watching so I have enough room for the next day&#8217;s content.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been joking that it&#8217;s super hard to be an athlete in training when the Olympics are on, but it&#8217;s SO TRUE.<\/p>\n<p>Thing #2: Game Jam.<\/p>\n<p>Our workplace does this AWESOME thing every year &#8211; they let us break up into small teams, and take our own game ideas from concept to completion.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a super fun and exciting time, but it&#8217;s also a super stressful and hectic time trying to learn new things and ship a completed game in the span of a week.\u00a0 I normally have ebb and flow at work, and it was all flow last week, all the time, including one day where I didn&#8217;t leave until after midnight.<\/p>\n<p>Thing #3: the Personal Fitness Trainer exam.<\/p>\n<p>I had been studying for this exam by rolling through the practice test over and over.\u00a0 Then, the day before, we did a little research online and found out that it was supposed to be MUCH HARDER than that.\u00a0 UGH.\u00a0 So instead of the hour or two we planned to do review and prep on Monday, we crammed for about 5 hours, leaving about 6.5 hours of sleep.<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that we passed!\u00a0 I got a 95% (and you only needed 69).\u00a0 The bad news is we had to go into work late because of it, which meant we needed to work late.\u00a0 This meant a super late dinner, then we celebrated with some beverages and the Olympics&#8230; and then it was wayyyy later than reasonable on a weekday.\u00a0 Oops.\u00a0 So, the test and our reaction to the test killed about 2 full days this week.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-6116\" src=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Aug15-2.jpg\" alt=\"Aug15-2\" width=\"401\" height=\"399\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Aug15-2.jpg 592w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Aug15-2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Aug15-2-300x298.jpg 300w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Aug15-2-88x88.jpg 88w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 401px) 100vw, 401px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>That happy but slightly crazed expression after passing the exam?\u00a0 Sorta sums up last week&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Three awesome, fun things, that combined into the perfect storm of tossing my life into chaos last week.\u00a0 What did that mean for my day to day?\u00a0 Less than optimal rest, shady nutrition, less intensity and volume in training than expected, and feeling crazy overwhelmed.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t track, I didn&#8217;t get my fruits and veggies, I definitely went over calories some day, I didn&#8217;t take my vitamins, and I missed some workouts and cut some short.<\/p>\n<p>I have learned over the years that stress, is stress, is stress.\u00a0 Doesn&#8217;t matter which type.\u00a0 You have a finite amount of Give-a-Shit, and while you can borrow from said Give-a-Shit, you always have to pay it back (and if you don&#8217;t&#8230; hello Burnout).\u00a0 So, instead of getting down on myself, or rallying and trying to fit everything in a crazy week, I let some things slide.<\/p>\n<p>The great news is the stressors ALL were temporary.\u00a0 I&#8217;m taking time off before I start on my next course.\u00a0 Maybe I&#8217;ll start this week, but probably when I get back from vacation.\u00a0 Either way, it&#8217;s back to reading and studying at my own pace instead of cramming for a scheduled and proctored test.\u00a0 The Olympics are ending this weekend.\u00a0 Game Jam is over.\u00a0 Life is returning to normal.<\/p>\n<p>The other great news is that my weight didn&#8217;t take a beating.\u00a0 I weighed in this morning and it was actually way better than expected.\u00a0 Whew!\u00a0 I know I can&#8217;t get away with this for much longer, so back to the wagon, on the straight and narrow, and all the other euphemisms for picking myself up, dusting myself off, and doing better this week.<\/p>\n<p>So, back to it.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s roll.<\/p>\n<p>Workouts: the goal this week is to hit the gist of them.\u00a0 It&#8217;s rainy and cooler, so some bike miles might move to the trainer, or they might convert to run miles since OMG it&#8217;s in the 70s!!!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monday: 3+ mile run, weights<\/li>\n<li>Tuesday: 1500m swim, endurance cycle<\/li>\n<li>Wednesday: plan is ~3 hours of riding including commuting and recovery ride.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll see how this goes.<\/li>\n<li>Thursday: weights, 1500m swim (OWS if I can, pool if not)<\/li>\n<li>Friday: off<\/li>\n<li>Saturday: shorty 3-ish mile run<\/li>\n<li>Sunday: 8 mile trail run, short bike ride<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This should be 10 hours, give or take.\u00a0 I&#8217;m actually feeling pretty darn rested right now, so this shouldn&#8217;t be a problem barring extenuating circumstances.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-6114\" src=\"http:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Aug15-3.jpg\" alt=\"Aug15-3\" width=\"401\" height=\"397\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Aug15-3.jpg 599w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Aug15-3-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Aug15-3-300x297.jpg 300w, https:\/\/adjustedreality.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Aug15-3-88x88.jpg 88w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 401px) 100vw, 401px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Lots of takeout last week.\u00a0 At least I tried to make with the healthy options (most of the time).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Eating: get back to the good stuff and a normal routine.\u00a0 Please?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>No takeout until either: a) Friday night or b)I have exhausted all leftovers and sandwich fixins.\u00a0 I think Friday night will come first.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve got a lot in my freezer.<\/li>\n<li>Take my vitamins every day.<\/li>\n<li>Track my food, stay -1000 under my burn.<\/li>\n<li>Drink 4 of my 24 oz bottles of water per day independent of exercise hydration.<\/li>\n<li>Fruits and veggies.\u00a0 Eat them.\u00a0 Five a day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Life: calm my shit.\u00a0 And do the normal things.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do not stay up until I can count the hours until work on one hand.\u00a0 In fact, if I need three hands to count the amount of hours I can sleep, I&#8217;m doing it right.<\/li>\n<li>School is last priority this week.\u00a0 If I have motivation and nothing else I need to do, go for it.\u00a0 If not, I&#8217;m going to take the week to relax and let the noodles in my head firm up.<\/li>\n<li>Get things ready for vacation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And with that&#8230;
